Yes, BookLoop is completely free to use for South African university students. There are no fees for creating an account, listing textbooks, or contacting sellers. We believe in making education more affordable and accessible for all students.
When viewing a textbook listing that interests you, simply click the “Contact Seller” button on the listing page. This will reveal the seller’s contact information, including their email address and phone number. You can then contact them directly to arrange the purchase and delivery or pickup of the textbook.
Always check the ISBN (International Standard Book Number) of the textbook to ensure it’s the correct edition. You can also check the edition number and publication year. If you’re unsure, contact your lecturer or course coordinator to confirm which edition is required for your course. When contacting sellers, you can also ask for specific details about the book to verify it meets your requirements.
BookLoop does not process payments directly. Instead, we leave it up to buyers and sellers to arrange payment between themselves. Common payment methods used by our users include cash on delivery/pickup, bank transfers, mobile payment apps like SnapScan or Zapper, and e-wallet services. We recommend discussing and agreeing on a payment method before meeting to exchange the textbook.
Delivery methods are arranged directly between buyers and sellers. Common options include:
- In-person meetup on campus or at a public location
- Collection from the seller’s residence or accommodation
- Postal or courier services (at additional cost)
If you encounter a listing that seems suspicious or fraudulent, please use the “Report Listing” option on the listing page to notify our team. Provide as much detail as possible about why you believe the listing is problematic. Our moderation team will investigate promptly and take appropriate action. For your safety, never transfer money for a textbook you haven’t seen in person, and be cautious of deals that seem too good to be true.
